It's definitely not fixed here.
On top of having files in random order, certain files do not even appear!

thanks for the bug report. the issue will be fixed in totem-3.0 upstream
developers have committed into the 2.32 branch but they may or maynot
make the release.

I can also confirm this behavior from opening files in Nautilus. I
snooped the Totem source code but I didn't see anything suspicious:
maybe this is a bad interaction with glib or GTK and totem?

I just copied a bunch of video files from a camera memory stick,
selected them in nautilus, right-clicked and selected "Open with Movie
Player" and the same problem happened.
Checking the running processes, I see:
totem /home/chris/Pictures/SDC13156.MP4
/home/chris/Pictures/SDC13157.MP4 /home/chr
Still happens after upgrading:
