This was fixed upstream in the first alpha release of vim 7.1 (though
the announcement didn't mention it), so has been fixed in Ubuntu
releases from 7.10 onwards.

This was reported over a year ago! I can't remember what I did at the
time, especially for little bugs. It might be a good idea to report it
upstream again if it hasn't been fixed yet.
