Anoyingly the Quick Time test works fine for me also.
I still get the error with the 3 files I tried to open yesterday, all 3
play fine in VLC.
I don't know if this will help here is the CODEC info:

I found an example .mp4 file

but it is working fine for me, can one of you known to have this problem

I have the same problem.
Just a thought bbordwell - do you have a small MP4 video that you could attach
here for us to test against? That is probably going to be a better way than
trying to attach a hi-def 300-1200Mb file of ours?

I've been using Ubuntu since 7.10 and have had it installed on the same netbook
(an MSI Wind variant) updating every time - this is the first pulse-audio issue
that I've had, so I don't think that it's an issue with an unsupported card or
whatnot.
