Thought I would add a quick update. Downloaded and installed VMware Server Console 1.0.10 and tried it, getting the same error. Downloaded and installed version 1.0.9 and 1.0.6 and still getting the same error message. Which is very odd, because prior to upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 VMware

As ridiculous as Lorenzos comment sounds, I can confirm it. Switching to Ambiance (from Human-Clearlooks) does indeed make vmware-server- console work. Switching back causes it to fail again. Several other themes also cause the failure (Dust, New Wave). -- vmware-server-console does not start
