How about as an option where by there is a simple tick box that says
"click here if this computers hardware has already been registered" or
something similar, which could then tie the pc in with your database id
and thus alleviated this situation.
I really believe that this could be a great tool
the HWDB-Client is installed by default, and can be accessed easily by
going to "System > Administration > Device Manager" At the bottom is the
Ubuntu Device Database.
