Could you please specify which gstreamer package you installed?
Ubuntu Software Centre shows a long list of gstreamer packages,
including 100 technical items. I have installed most of the technical
items except those ending in '-doc' but I still can't get Empathy to
connect
I have already given up using ubuntu,

I had a nightmare with ubuntu 10.10, the CPU gets extremely very hot,
and that without any computational effort, just web surfing cause the

empathy to suggest to install codecs if they are not already installed.
