2 Daniel Eckl,
There is one solution which I am utilising currently. I picked it up at one of
the russian Linux forums and it did work for me!
It is a dirty and slightly stupid hack, which could possibly have some
consequences, however, for a time being it did not have any on my machine.
So, ins

I have the same problem on dapper with kde-3.5.5.
I tried the solution from
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/65662/comments/20 and
it does not work.
I have hal (and libhal1) 0.5.7-1ubuntu18.2
Is there anything else I can try? I use usb mass storage devices VERY

The solution proposed by Jon Anderson in Bug #65662 didn't work for me.
The latest hal update doesn't solve this neither. I know at least one
more person who experienced the same problem. The solution was the re-
installation.

Hello,
I confirm that I my case (Dapper + Update directly from KDE 3.5.3 to KDE 3.5.5
without KDE 3.5.4 deb repository) the latest hal update solved the problem.
Having a look at Bug #65662, it really sounds like a duplicate.
Any body else which can confirm this ?

Found my problem. It was an existing symlink /media/usbdisk -> /media/sdc1.
And automatic mount failed because the file 'usbdisk' was already there.

Same problem here. It started in Dapper with updates from kde-latest.
Now upgraded to Edgy, the problem is still there, but it's impossible to
try applying dapper kde 354 package.
Are this bug and bug 65662 duplicates?

I tried this. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Libhal on my system

other solutions?

Hello again !
The solution, in my case, has just been found and is available here :
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135586.
The problem occurs specifically on kubuntu system when you update
directly from kde 3.5.3 to 3.5.5 without having added the 3.5.4
repository in your sources.list ...
So
Hello all :-)
I am also impacted by this bug. I am running Kubuntu Dapper and updated to kde
3.5.5 using the deb repository mentionned above :
deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-355 dapper main.
This is just to notify that a bug has also been filled into KDE's bug tracker :
http://bugs.kde.org
this bug is confirmed, it has several reporters with the same issue, as
a forum thread.

I've experienced absolutely the same problem.
I've upgraded from this repository too:
deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-355 dapper main
Moreover, some kcmshell modules like disks&file systems, services, users,
started crashing when I upgraded to KDE 3.5.5. In addition to that some 3-rd

I have tried the pmount command and it have worked, the pen drive mounts
in /media/sda1 and I can browse it.
The output was:

According to this thread someone else just happen to had the same
problem with the same error message.
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=9850.0
so this bug can be confirmed.
Liet can you follow this thread and try the pmount commands stated
there?
Thanks a lot.
