Tested on a fresh edgy: Changing these paths makes fonts in plain X11
apps work again.

Scott pointed me at the diff to the Debian package here:

The paths used by the Debian package look like they'd work correctly on
Edgy.

font subsystem (like emacs) don't see the truetype fonts installed on
