Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups
This problem concerns printing from Lucid to a printer share on Windows 7. Prior to Lucid (Hardy) printing did not request any password. After upgrading to Lucid, a user name and password is required. The user name is automatically filled in and is the same as the logged on user. Until recently, supplying the password of the logged on user allowed printing to proceed. An annoyance, but not a deal breaker. Having just returned from vacation, the last two weeks updates were all applied. Now, responding with the user name and password does not permit printing. Attempting to change AuthInfoRequired to None, commenting it out or deleting it in printers.conf had no effect, and any such changes were quickly overwritten reverting it to AuthInfoRequired user, password. As below. As a result, printing from the Ubuntu machine is no longer possible. <DefaultPrinter HP-Officejet-5600-old> AuthInfoRequired username, password Info HP Officejet 5600 MakeModel HP Officejet 5600 Series hpijs, 3.10.2 DeviceURI smb://sten/HPOffice State Idle StateTime 1288626847 Type 8425484 Filter application/vnd.cups-raw 0 - Filter application/vnd.cups-postscript 100 foomatic-rip Filter application/vnd.cups-pdf 0 foomatic-rip Filter application/vnd.cups-command 0 commandtops Accepting Yes Shared Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 OpPolicy default ErrorPolicy retry-job Option media iso_a4_210x297mm </Printer> ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: cups 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-25.45-generic 2.6.32.21+drm33.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-25-generic i686 Architecture: i386 CheckboxSubmission: 7653b627515bdbdcf473e633c9aa1dad CheckboxSystem: 2b6b6ee4c6a1f5f02fef2009466026d8 Date: Tue Nov 2 00:17:17 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100427.1) Lpstat: device for hp-color-LaserJet-2550-series: hp:/usb/hp_color_LaserJet_2550_series?serial=00CNHGH09303 device for HP-Officejet-5600-old: smb://sten/HPOffice MachineType: Acer, inc.
