It seems as Bug #743323 is already up on the pulseaudio clue. I am
marking this bug as a duplicate of that bug, so all can be followed at
one place.

This link states it is a pulseaudio issue with vlc:

Therefore, I am also marking it as such.

This just happened to me on Arch Linux. Therefore, it should be safe to
say that this is an upstream bug, and not Ubuntu-specific.

I have had the same issue on my Sony Vaio VGNAR520E and Ubuntu Natty
Beta 2. It happened while watching the videos through HDMI-out, though
that might be unrelated. Needless to say, it did not happen with all
files. Those problematic files played well with totem though.

I could be mistaken, but I think this log confirms that it is a
pulseaudio issue...
I know it's a little off-topic, but if someone could drop me a link here
on how to replace pulseaudio with something that ISN'T going to kludge
my system into the stone-age, I'd be grateful.

BTW I have to thank you guys not only because vlc is a pretty damn good
product overall, but also because without this bug I would have never
figured out that there was NO decent reason to have a swap partition on
a machine that has no solid state hard drives installed in it.

It might be a pulseaudio thing... I wouldn't even be able to begin to
know how to trace it (and frankly I'm just not that helpful).
What I _can_ confirm is that I have had this issue in both Ubuntu
versions 9.04 and 10.04, I _do_ use primarily pulseaudio, and this
happens to VLC maybe one out of t
The bug is _probably_ in vlc-plugin-pulse. I only meant that the
upstream VLC team is not maintaining that particular VLC plugin, not
that it was a PulseAudio bug.

>From the massif output, the problem is evidently in the PulseAudio

for several reasons, so I'm leaving it to Ubuntu.
