I don't need this issue to be fixed since I have already performed a new
install in a new VM. I still have the broken VM if there is anyone
interested in determining what exactly went wrong. The VM is an
installation of ubuntu server edition so there is no UI.

2.6.32-24-server #43 and everything works fine. Of course, this means I
