Unable to boot system and I don't know enough to be able to recover the
system from the live CD; I have managed to recover my data, perform a
clean install (32bit as I can't locate my 64bit CD) and restore data
plus settings. Not sure that I want to pursue a fix to this problem as
I do not wish

Computer has to be rebooted when swapping between internal and external
speakers otherwise they remain mute.
I have followed the linked instructions. My system will now not boot. Display
flashes on and off, no cli or gui, just a blank screen with the backlight
flashing on and off about twice per second. Posting this after booting from a
live-cd.
Any advice on saving my system short of a fresh
Remove the linux-alsa-driver-modules* packages.
