I have an old Sony Vaio - PCG-XG19, with a neomagic graphics card. I
was installing Kubuntu Herd 5 which I downloaded today.
When I tried the install, I never even saw the map. Some of the
previous page was still on the display, and there were the dots
representing cities, and the tooltip
Detecting whether this is going to be a problem is too hard, so I've
just disabled zoom altogether for now as it was only a nicety anyway.
