so, the dependancies between the xserver packages are incorrect.
Dapper had "xserver-xorg-driver-i810" and this was removed post-install,
after upgrading, because they were "no longer supported". I thought,

I have exactly the same problem. I consider this bug critical because it
breaks X11 after the upgrade on a whole lot of notebooks!
