Public bug reported: I have a computer connected to a TV using the TV out on a Geforce2 MX 400. I usually don't have a monitor connected at all. When the computer boots up, the video card usually notices that there is only a TV and no monitor connected, so it turns on the TV out automatically. This is how I usually use the TV out as nvtv is sort of buggy with this video card and on dapper nvtv can't actually turn on the TV out unless the video card turns it on at boot.
After upgrading to edgy, it now crashes while booting if there is a TV connected. If there is both a TV and a monitor connected however, it doesn't crash, but in this configuration the video card doesn't activate the TV out. The crash occurs after the loading screen but before the login screen displays. The screen goes blank, num lock no longer works, and it doesn't respond to pings. By putting various echo statements in /etc/init.d/gdm and /etc/init.d/usplash, it seems like the crash occurs when /etc/init.d/gdm runs "/etc/init.d/usplash start", which then runs $CONSOLE_SCREEN, which is set to "setupcon --force". I can try adding a bunch of echo statements to setupcon also, but is there an easier way to figure out where it's crashing? ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Edgy crashes while booting if TV out connected https://launchpad.net/bugs/67636 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
