To clarify, do you mean that no sound is audible at all in your Ubuntu
VM? To troubleshoot whether this is a pulse or an alsa issue, please
use the following command from within a Terminal in your Ubuntu VM:
pasuspender -- speaker-test -c2 -twav -l1 -Dplug:front:AudioPCI
and report whether sound
