I got the exact same problem. I can texto say:
saved it as a PNG. I then used the PNG in a html page as an image, and when I
loaded the page in the browser, gimp crashed.
Note that I'm using Gimp 2.2.13 that comes with Feisty Fawn.

same as above. I was saving a file. Probably nautilus made teh thumbnail
at the same time as it was a new one.

I also had a similar experience running edgy. I was saving a png file in
the gimp. While the file was in the progress of saving (about half way
though) I navigated to the directory where i was saving the png using
nautilus. I believe the crash may be a combination of nautilus trying to
thumbnail
