upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would

I have no interest in any investigation of this bug. The solution is
adding irqpoll to the boot line, and I've been using that in numerous
distributions ever since with great succes.

Glad you have found the right kernel boot option.
This is a common problem with laptops especially. Manufacturers often build
outside of accepted standards workarounds need to be found.

I solved this problem by adding
irqpoll
anywhere in to grub boot command line and since this 'bug' seem to appear in
any newer distribution, it can hardly be a Ubuntuspecific bug. Shouldn't it be
deleted?

I downloaded kubuntu 6.10, the keyboard works well in final release of
kubunu 6.10 but the modem still doesn't work :(

I have similar problem using USB. I use several USB devices on my
laptop, a USB mouse, a USB keyboard, a USB IPW UMTS device (module:
ipw). All work well on Windows and Ubuntu 5.10, but keyboard and IPW
fails to work on 6.06 and 6.10 RC. it seems that the problem is in the
new kernel usb handling.
I get no odd messages from dmesg that could be linked to the USB
problem. Currently I run PCLinuxOS .93, which is based on kernel 2.6.16,
that is one minor release more recent than the kernel of Dapper, and
here everything works great.
