Since Martin's problem was a different one (now fixed), I'm taking this back off the Intrepid bug list. (The Won't Fix in Intrepid is the only way to do this; the bug is still Confirmed in general.) ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu Intrepid) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- Unable

I get this exact error on the Intrepid Alpha-4 desktop CDs. It works fine on the Alternates, I get a proper root=UUID=... entry in menu.list on them. But in desktops, I am stuck with root=/dev/hda1, which fails to boot, of course. ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu Intrepid) Importance:

For this install the UUID of /dev/sda1 is actually 4227d9ff-eeda-4bbb-8a87-0eff7224fbbe I have no idea where it gets a692d67a-efe7-7b5a-e7e3-7162d9f25982 from, but I know why findfs fails now, and grub is not able to get the right device name. -- Unable to determine root device
