Since Martin's problem was a different one (now fixed), I'm taking this
back off the Intrepid bug list. (The Won't Fix in Intrepid is the only
way to do this; the bug is still Confirmed in general.)

I get this exact error on the Intrepid Alpha-4 desktop CDs. It works
fine on the Alternates, I get a proper root=UUID=... entry in menu.list
on them. But in desktops, I am stuck with root=/dev/hda1, which fails to
boot, of course.

Okay so I downloaded the new 6.10 release today ubuntu-server-6.10-amd64
and did a new install same problem, I do the install and grub fails
looking for the UUID of the file system matching a692d67a-efe7-7b5a-
e7e3-7162d9f25982 This number has to be hard coded somewhere, 3
different installs
Please do give us your install logs attached as files to this bug
report.
We'd like /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman. Thanks

For this install the UUID of /dev/sda1 is actually

I have no idea where it gets
a692d67a-efe7-7b5a-e7e3-7162d9f25982
from, but I know why findfs fails now, and grub is not able to get the right
device name.
