I am also running 10.10. This has been an ongoing, rather annoying
issue. I thought that it was an issue with Firefox, so I upgraded to
the latest version. The issue persists.
Luckily, the newer versions have an option to "reopen closed tabs".

This is an example of what happens. I selected an RSS feed in my browser

capture the desktop to show the spawning of tabs?

I am running 10.10 on a acer extensia laptop. With the touchpad I get
some inconsistent behavior using browsers. Currently firefox beta and
chrome. There are multiple tabs open, clicking on the tab will sometimes
close it instead of showing
