I do not have unity installed. And after a recent upgrade my gnome-
panels do not start-up. I have automatic login enabled, so I do not see
GDM. All I have is chromium browser (which I had on auto-startup) and
icons on my desktop. Gnome-launcher doesn't work and Ctrl+Alt+T doesn'†
start terminal

Was that using unity or not ?
As in, is you hardware supposed to support unity or not ?
Apparently Jonathan's tests with Virtualbox (without unity support)
worked fine.

This was indeed due to lack of unity support in vbox... I saw that unity
was still an option in the installer and thought that meant edubuntu
would default to the old panel-based desktop. Sorry for the confusion.
