I can confirm that this still exists bug on 12.04 LTS. I edited
/etc/default/grub, added GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text, then ran 'sudo
update-grub' to work-around the issue for now.

The laptop boots to B/W screen with the final message: "fb: conflicting
fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs EFI VGA - removing generic driver". Pressing
the power button then gives me the nice "UBUNTU" dots screen just as its

I can confirm this bug too. Latest Natty on HP Envy 17 2090nr. Also the

In addition, the text mode is corrupted and reversed (O_o) in addition

It is still an issue for me. Unfotunately apport seems to be broken on
my machine.
I too get the black screen unless I remove the "set

I have found that, while on the 'black' screen, pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

In the current kernel this seems to be solved (although the spalsh
screen does'nt seem to have full resolution).
In case you still need the information I've collected it via apport.
Else I guess this bug can be marked as fixed.
Thanks for taking some time to help!

We're deliberately exposing kernel problems early in the Natty cycle
