Unfortunately, apport-collect only collects information relevant for
Emacs unless / until you mark this as an xorg bug. Could you attach
your Xorg.0.log file from /var/log please?
@Mathew Oakes, MightyFlea, Peter Desnoyers: if you still have this bug,
please supply the requested information.

if I am using the external VGA and disable the native screen it seems to
work fine.

The most useful thing is that you use bug report to report the bug.
This is possible from your system, from the page (see top of the page)

I seem to suffer from this bug too.
I have a Dell Mini 10v netbook running 10.10 Maverick.
Is there any information you want me to gather to help you in
troubleshooting?

I updated today (11/02/2011) emacs23 with the update provided by ubuntu,
and the problem persists: emacs does not work with a projector added in
my laptop

Indeed, the bug was not present in ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.4 and earlier.
However, the bug does not appear on my HP laptop under ubuntu 10.10. The
problem comes with Lenovo S10e (and others, I guess). As for emacs, I
also see problems in the contextual menu (copy option is not active and
others)

Mathew Oakes: do you have an Intel i915 display board, too? See your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log for hints, and compare with the one uploaded by
fmgolmedo. Thanks!

Sorry, I mean 945GME. See also bug #680878 (which is however a 915GM)
-- if you have the same driver and roughly the same hardware, I'd be
tempted to mark this as a duplicate.

This is probably a display driver problem. Can you submit the necessary
information for debugging your X configuration as attachments here? See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging for information, although it is
regrettably rather broad in scope.

I generated a report with the following command
ubuntu-bugs xorg
but it is enormous and can not find a way to make a file with its
content. I can only generate a new bug report hinting at this for emacs.
Do you find something better? Excuse me

I'm no expert either, but at the very least, attaching a copy of

Oh and probably also .xsession-errors in your home directory, if it
contains anything beyond the usual.
