Thanks for reporting this bug.
This sounds like debian bug 409443, which they report fixed as of xserver 1.3,
available in Gutsy.

If the problem still occurs on gutsy, please reopen this and we'll look
into it more deeply.

Close laptop lid and X resets (power managment set to do
If i modify the xserver to run with no acpi the issue does not occur,
however disabling acpi is not an optimal solution.

I have tried starteing without GDM and the error still occurs however it
gives me more information when it crashed to the console.
Backtrace:
0: /usr/X11R6/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x81) [0x80c3971]
1: [0xe420]
2: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__strtoul_internal+0x3f) [0xb7da47df]
3: /usr/X11R6/b
Forgive me but I don't know how set it up so that it does not use GDM. I
will look into this however heres the bottom of the Xorg.0.log. I
closed the lid at the time listed next to AUDIT:
/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/s
Thanks for your bug. Do you have anything to /var/log/Xorg.0.log after
the crash? Does it happen if you start your session without gdm?
