The above instructions don't work. I actually managed to install apport
on the crashed Linux page (more or less), but ultimately I get the

After the crash, press Ctrl+Alt+F2 (at the same time), then type apport-collect
689475 and accept the process for attaching automatically the files.

Like I said, I am unable to do that, because the requested log files
weren't on the USB stick, and there were no instruction on how else to
retrieve them (from a HD with a crashed OS install, with the requirement
that said files need to be secured before reboot). Sorry about that.
