Work around In order to recover the missing menu entries it seems that you have to mount the missing drive, so that you can access the files. I did this via Dolphin (Nautilus in Ubuntu). Once this partition is mounted I ran sudo update-grub in Konsole (terminal) and the menu entry was

I've just got this problem after updating the Natty Kubuntu kernel to 2.6.38-5-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 22 16:10:15 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux from 2.6.38-3. I have a number of partitions (1 of which is Kubuntu and 2 Ubuntu). The Lucid Lynx Partition (sdb5) is not shown in the
