There are errors being produced which is why the update manager is not
showing the proper update times. Though your sources list looks fine,
there are some items being asked to download that are not on the sources
file. I would like to take a look at your whole apt folder because some
software
same again
ls -l /var/lib/apt/periodic
total 0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-12-01 12:00 update-stamp
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-12-19 14:12 update-success-stamp
might because I have some old ppa's attached ?

They shouldn't be a problem unless they are producing errors when doing
an update. Run the following command and attach the output file to your
next post.
sudo apt-get update ~/Desktop/Upgrade-file
(File will be located on the desktop after running the command)
Thanks results are
ls -l /var/lib/apt/periodic
total 0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-12-01 12:00 update-stamp
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-12-19 14:12 update-success-stamp

It seems that the files are not updating themselves. May be an issue
with aptitude.
Run the following and make sure it completes *without* any errors.
sudo apt-get update
Then post the output of the following again:
ls -l /var/lib/apt/periodic
Thanks!!

Also, are you receiving any errors when trying to update?
PS: Please don't change the status of the bug just yet. It may confuse
the developers into thinking that the bug has been fully triaged even
though it has not. Thanks. :)

I know. I want to see if the commands update the proper file that will
display on the update-manager. The update-manager reads the last
update dates from a totally different file on the system. To be exact,
update-manager checks for the last update time via the file:
Thanks for taking the time to report this. Please copy the following
into a terminal and execute:
sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get upgrade
See if that corrects the problem.
