Still reproduceable with pympd 0.07-1.3 in lucid and 0.08.1 from upstream.
Someone should report it in the upstream bug tracker

Basically you need to download the plugin from the pympd site:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=142129&package_id=179834&release_id=432065
(make sure it's the same version that is in Ubuntu)
unpack it, go to the src/modules/tray directory and run make
in it. This will produce
