Mark, I've tried 11.04 alpha 3 now, and I can't reproduce the issue
there. Would be nice to have it fixed in 10.10 as well, but given that
the 11.04 release isn't too far away, that's okay. Will just have to
upgrade when 11.04 is out.

Neil: I can still reproduce this on Ubuntu 10.10, with all the latest
updates installed (and the system rebooted to make sure the latest
version installed is also loaded). I'm not able to reopen the bug, can
you please do so? Thanks :)

Thomas - can you try 11.04 A3? We're not spending time on 10.10 at the
moment I'm afraid, the focus has to be on the upcoming 11.04 release and
beyond. FWIW I'm running 11.04 on my main laptop, if you are comfortable
with beta software it may be worth testing.

I get this from time to time, seemingly most often in relation to
using Firefox and Evolution being maximized... I can not get the
launcher back unless i close those two apps. If I make the gnome-panel
occupy a few pixels in the bottom of the screen I can see that the

the cause for this bug is the same as the 'menu popup not always appearing'
the workaround it to click on the desktop first and then this wont happen
