Tried running Ubuntu 11.04 off the USB pendrive and then sound worked,
so I did a complete reinstall and this solved the problem.

Tried to do modprobe:
$ sudo modprobe via82cxxx_audio
FATAL: Module via82cxxx_audio not found.
As far as I can tell the driver is not in the system, but how do I
update to get it installed?

Running Ubuntu 11.04 and have same problem with VIA 8237 on-board sound. I am
new to Linux, but expert on Windows. Maybe this information can help:
