The problem seems to have completly disappeared, both in 11.04 and in
11.10 beta, despite me being very brutal with my machines and turning
them off the hard way all the time ;-).
I think it is safe to close the bug.

Ubuntu better.
Do you have a high level of I/O happening when you force the computer
off?
This issue was reported while 11.04 was in the development release
stage. It would help us greatly if you could test with the final 11.04
