I opened this bug because docx files would not open at all. I just found
the problem. There was a registry entry in the /usr/lib/openoffice/share
tree that wanted to open an Odfconverter that no longer existed. This
must have been a holdover from an earlier ooffice before the Odf support
was integr

not display images as expected? Thanks!

I have OpenOffice and whilst can open .docx files, they do not display
certain images. LibreOffice has the same problem.

I know this doesn't fix the issue with openoffice, but if you install
libreoffice from this ppa:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libreoffice
or download the .deb from http://www.libreoffice.org/
Does libre office have the .docx issue?

OK, I tested this sample docx on another Ubuntu 10.10 system and I can
read it too. So there is something wrong on the system I opened the bug
on.
I did another test trying to write a file in docx format and it fails
too. doc read/writes are ok.
So could I be missing some library with the docx
Strange, I can open that docx file no problem.
