and it indeed fixes the bug: no more unexpected crash when configuring display.

- I am now able to reproduce the bug, by the following steps:
1 - turn on machine and log in, with VGA connector of additional screen or
projector unplugged
2 - connect the screen (tried today with a LCD DELL 22')
3 - click on the screens icon in the Gnome
