As a workaround for the problems accessing files on shares mounted under ~/.gvfs I created a symlink to .gvfs (with ln -s .gvfs gvfs-mounts). Now saving/opening works fine ( on ubuntu 11.10, LibreOffice 3.4.4 ,OOO340m1 (Build:402)). It seems part of the problem was the inability to use a path with

I like to add that it works if the new document is saved to ~/.gvfs/sharename/ or a sub(-sub)-directory of it. The problem is that the Save As dialog always remembers the path as smb://synology.local/sharename/ which does not work for LibreOffice. Working in a deep directory of a big file tree
