This problem seems to be back, even with
8.71.dfsg.2-0ubuntu7~lucid1~ppa1 installed. It's slightly different
though. If I run the gs command that cups is running by hand:
# /usr/bin/gs -dQUIET -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=cups
-sstdout=%stderr -sOutputFile=/var/tmp/file.out -I/usr
The gsfonts package on my PPA is built now. Please update again.

have uploaded that version to my PPA now, too. Wait for it to appear and

Any progress on this issue? It's entirely easy to reproduce so I can't
possibly understand what could be holding up a diagnosis and fix.

to narrow down the problem and if that's the case, I can already tell

Works for me with Ghostscript 9.01, SVN rev 12047, as shipped with Natty
(you can try with a live CD of Natty, do all updates to assure that you
have the curren Ghostscript).
