Hi Saïvann,
Sorry about this; it's all got pushed into the background by other
things.
1. If you disable usplash from the Grub menu.lst file, do you still get this
problem (I just want to make sure).
Yes, the problem remains, though if I can switch cleanly into a virtual

Now I have installed the Hardy beta. It's only been in for 24 hours but
the results so far are not encouraging, so perhaps there is some kind of

I'm confused by what you mean:
1. If the usplash screen is shut off in your case, and you still got a white
screen then this is apparently not a bug of usplash.
2. If the usplash screen does not disappear when shutting it off in menu.lst,
then I think you've got somehow a co

Okay, shutting off usplash in /boot/grub/menu.lst has not worked, so I
will be installing the Hardy beta and hoping that does the trick.

Is there anyone that can reproduce this bug in latest Hardy release?
Jørgen Best : Thanks for your confirmation! And yes, modifying
/boot/grub/menu.lst is really a better idea :)

I could not reproduce this bug with the latest release (see my previous

screen (that's my favour). Sorry for the confusion I created.
In the past I had this bug. At that time I fixed it by removing the

can you also say if you can reproduce this bug with latest Hardy

For me the solution at the time was removing the splash screen at boot
and shutdown via /boot/grub/menu.lst
Just remove the splash option behind:
"# defoptions"
"kernel"
Can I put that on hold as an option for for a few days as I'm trying a
simpler solution: removing usplash from /etc/init.d
The *very* preliminary results (two shutdowns) are encouraging---no
white screen freeze---but I need to give it a bit longer to see whether
that's just luck!
Regards, Adair.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but I'm continuing to have this problem,
now with with Gutsy, on a Dell Latitude C600.
It seems to vary in frequency, and is seems to be fairly(!) avoidable by
logging out of a session OR shutting down via one of the virtual
terminals. Otherwise at the moment I am gett

please set back the status of the bug to confirmed or just ask for it

I think this bug is fixed. I booted and did shut down ten times with the
splash screen and everything worked fine.
(problem is that the bug did not show up at every shutdown in my case)
Further: I have no clue if I am using this new PSB driver from Intel (I
assume Ubuntu 7.10 fixed this for me).
Thanks for this bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu.
Since Michael Fray spoke about the update of some intel components, can
you test if this bug can still be reproduced with latest linux ubuntu
gutsy release? Thanks to everybody who contributed to this bug report so
far.
