I use Gutsy now.
The problem no longer appears.
It was solved months ago, with a new version of skype.

Same problem for me since dapper (i'm using edgy now) with skype 1.3, i hope
this will be solved a day ;) alsa support is useful.
For the moment to avoid this more than annoying problem i use skype 1.2 which
is bug free.

I experienced a similar problem with Skype.
When a chat call comes for the first time (so that the chat window is
open for the first time) my system does not respond for about 30
seconds. After that, all seems to go as desired.
Some info on my system:
- P4 2400
- 1GB RAM
- Kubuntu Edgy (but the
