Hello out there.
I'm affraid I'm getting too old for Ubuntu. I've worked with Ubuntu since
7.04, and it worked fine - but problems increased upp trough 8.04, 9.04 10.04
and now in 11.04 it seems to me, that problems can't be solved since opdates
can't be done.
I've reported problems to Ubuntu

I just found that 14e4:4315 works fine when installing
firmware-b43-lpphy-installer instead of firmware-b43-installer.
14e4:4315 is the only known LP-PHY device which is working with the b43 driver.
So this applies to 14e4:4315 only.

This bug is ONLY about the BCM4312 aka 14e4:4315. It does not apply to
other Broadcom cards. Please post your comments about BCM4306, BCM4318
and BCM4311 somewhere else.

MasterNetra (designerkline)'s comment at #6 works best for me, simply by
reverting to 10.10's version via the Sources list and Synaptic Package

HP DV2000 with Broadcom BCM4311: wireless worked fine in previous
versions. Currently have Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.1, and 10.4 running in
other partitions and wireless works fine everywhere else. I noticed
that previous versions use B43-FWCutter by default and Natty seems to
default to STA - which
actually my wireless works fine even after that happened. Natty boots up
fine, installed fine. It just gave that error. What I'm seeing now is
that it is popping up when obviously downloading new stuff from the
software center.
Once again my wireless works fine. Sorry for the lack of info, I am

were just a big mailing list and any error I reported would just to some

@MasterNetra - thank you for your solution however, not only did not
work, but it took my eth0 down with no way to bring it back until
removing the 10.04 bcmwl-kernel-source. I was 'close' as the wireless
icon showed up;
It also states in the error message that a low power chip is not
supported. I am running Ubuntu on an HP Mini netbook.

It seems the right solution depends on your card. If I understand
correctly, my BCM4306 rev 2 card is not supported by the bcmwl driver,
so the solution above is not relevant for me even if it works for many
others.
If I were to guess at the problem, the firmware-b43legacy-installer is fooled

This bug affects the wireless Broadcom 1370 on Dell 610, and Broadcom
1390 on Dell 1501 laptops under Ubuntu 11.04. Both worked fine under 9

you have to have bcmwl-kernel-source from 10.10 installed, the 11.04
version is broke.
Download it from: http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/bcmwl-kernel-source
After you download it, remove 11.04's version from repo, I usually use
synaptic to search for it, then install the 10.10 version (You

Here is a work around for ya, use 10.10's bcmwl-kernal-source:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/bcmwl-kernel-source
Remove the old one, and after you install the one from maverick be sure
to hop on synaptic, find bcmwl-kernal-source again and goto Packages
Lock Version after you have found
Me too, this machine has had 9.04, 9.10, 10.04 10.10 all with the
wireless working, and now in Natty it doesn't work. Here's the output
from the apt-get line when I attempted to reinstall the drivers just in
case.
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
