i uninstalled the 4.31 and used the one from the ppa and it still says
the anti-virus engine is outdated and could you please update the gui
for the maverick ppa

The GUI version is up-to-date, but ClamAV released a new version of the
scanner. Ubuntu will release it when they can or when available - it
will be available through normal update channels.
