Till this point what I did when this bug occured was to reboot the
machine (because on 2nd boot up it would always work as expected). Next
time, I will try whether Alt+Enter does the trick. However, I remember
trying to type in the password despite the blank screen – which didn't
work. (But maybe I
I just wanted to confirm this error. Seeing this behavior on a 64bit
Natty with Nvidia binary driver. But my screen is not black, it's violet
as usual. And you don't need to use ALT+Right you may simply type your
password and proceed boot. You just need to know.

I'm running plymouth 0.8.2-2ubuntu23 on x86_64 and am still seing the
described behavior. Only Alt-Right allows me to enter the passphrase.
Otherwise I'm only seing a blank screen after boot (no Ubuntu logo, no
dots).

As of plymouth_0.8.2-2ubuntu17, this seems to be fixed (at least for 32
bit which I use) on both my AMD Phenom II machines and my Intel Atom
N450 netbook.
