Same problem here. I am very disappointed that a problem like this

Title:
Update replaced grub-efi with grub-pc causing boot
More details if it can help other people who cannot boot after ubuntu
kernel update :

2.6.38.8 to 2.6.38.10.
I noticed some changes on grub but didn't pay attention to the fact that it in
fact replaced grub-efi
This is why you should always watch the list of packages being updated,
especially if you are on a server.
As a workaround, you can put a hold on grub-efi-amd64:

Update replaced grub-efi with grub-pc causing boot
Just happened to me in the a recent update to Natty through the Update

This happended to me too, I did an apt-get dist-upgrade in natty on
2011-05-05.
Annoying but could be fixed by booting on usb-stick, mounting the system
and re-install grub-efi.

Unfortunately, the Synaptic screenshot doesn't have enough information
for me to debug this. Could you please run:
sudo apt-get -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true dist-upgrade
and post the output?
