vice versa without a very detailed, technical explanation regarding the
underlying code. While both reporters are using Nvidia graphics cards,
they are 2 different vendor IDs.

It looks like the splash is being drawn as if the screen is in a smaller
mode than it really is.
If you don't mind having the old gap back between GRUB and Plymouth, you
can get rid of the vt.handoff=7 part of the kernel command line in
/etc/grub.d/10_linux and run update-grub.
