For the record, I think it was decided to check if the Vostro 1015 we
have has a hw error (it seems wired wrong according to #22) or if this
is the case for all Vostro 1015.
@Jonathan, since your hardware is different, please file a separate bug.

I should mention that laptops with the IDT audio driver suffer from this
problem as well. Internal microphone does not detect audio at all. I've
done a fresh install of 11.04 and updated it. Last update was one hour
ago.

This is not the same machine: In comment #7, you posted alsa-info for
Vostro 1015 with PCI SSID 1028:0402, in comment #14, you posted alsa-
info for Vostro 1014 with PCI SSID 1028:0401.
I would appreciate separate bugs for these machines, as Vostro 1015
