Or if you can't grab me, try the following:
Download snd-hda-tools from ppa:diwic/maverick, then run "sudo hda_analyzer"
To see if there's sound from the ext mic:
* plug it in
* node 0x1a, VREF should be 80, "IN" checkbox checked
* node 0x17, should point to take input from 0x1a, also make sure th
Sorry, it does not need a new model, the current model is correct. I
have discovered a bug in that model though - it seems that both
"Internal Mic Boost" and "Analog Mic Boost" controls the same thing
underneath, which in turn *should* control the external mic. Can you
grab me on IRC today for a re
Right, forgot about this one, sorry. It needs yet another model for the
cxt5066 family, or even better, an autoparser that could prevent similar
things in the future - but an autoparser would be to invasive to reach
Natty.

@David
After I add that line and reboot, the internal mic works, but an
exteranl one does not. In alsamixer analog mic boost does not show the
"volume" bar like on PCM and capture, instead it shows XdB (which you
can adjust from 0db to 40dB). The analog mic boost does nothing for the
external mic.
Can you confirm this:
Add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad
...and reboot. After that, can you successfully record from both int and
ext mic? It might be that you need to open alsamixer and adjust the
"analog mic boost" control.
