the menu only appears after a crash or a bad shutdown. But shift does
nothing. Even If I add a timeout bigger, Grub menu does not appear.

To manage notifications about this bug
I tried to hold down shift (right or left) when I obtain aubergine screen,
without success.
The menu apperas only if Ubuntu was not shutdown correctly, does it help?

The menu is hidden by default. Try holding down Shift at boot time,
which should display it. Does this work for you?
