It's definitely also happening in Debian (surprise, surprise...).
However, I'm not convinced anymore, that it has to do with DNS
resolution. OTOH I haven't gone to the trouble of trying to capture
network traffic when this occurs, so I can't be certain.

I think I've seen this with Xine on Fedora. The UI does not update for
a few seconds whenever you start to play a file. Then everything works
fine.
