This was the most similar bug report I could find. On a Thinkpad X31, I
get sound from both speakers when I'm connected to the dock. The laptop
itself only has one speaker, so when I'm not connected to the dock, I
get mono sound.
Also, when I plug in an Edirol UA-1EX external USB sound A/D-D/A,
That sounds like a sound card driver problem. Could you try this with
other mixer programs, say aumix in a terminal?

Correct. Sound only comes from the right speaker after booting up. It
doesn't come from both speakers until I mute and unmute the sound.
