This bug is still present in Ubuntu precise. I can confirm seeing icons
multiple times. Please check the attached picture.

I can confirm that my multiple icons were caused by the stall .desktop
files in .local/share/applications/menu-xdg folder.

sorry to be again very pi**ed with the ubuntu we-do-not-care-for-bugs
policy, but could you please explain why oh why this bug is expired and
invalid if never ever anybody cared again to even investigate this

I did a complete "find / -name '*dia*.desktop'" on my notebook and found
multiple relevant files:
/home/niko/.local/share/applications/menu-xdg/X-Debian-Applications-Graphics-dia_(gnome).desktop
/home/niko/.local/share/applications/menu-xdg/X-Debian-Applications-Science-Engineering-dia.deskt
