Okay, problem does not exist on my Desktop (Ubuntu "Feisty" 7.04 instead of Kubuntu). I've been checking, and Hal is not picking up USB device disconnects properly on the Laptop. When I disconnect my Sansa, the Hal Device manager shows it as still being plugged in. -- Oops in scsi_mod and usbs

As said, it works the first time it's plugged in. If (after disconnecting it that first time) I re-start X it will work as the original connection (and that is a repeated cycle). The other option that works well is to open a terminal and mount it manually every time I subsequently plug in the MP3
