Okay, problem does not exist on my Desktop (Ubuntu "Feisty" 7.04 instead
of Kubuntu).
I've been checking, and Hal is not picking up USB device disconnects
properly on the Laptop. When I disconnect my Sansa, the Hal Device
manager shows it as still being plugged in.

As said, it works the first time it's plugged in. If (after
disconnecting it that first time) I re-start X it will work as the
original connection (and that is a repeated cycle). The other option
that works well is to open a terminal and mount it manually every time I
subsequently plug in the MP3

Okay, I didn't mention, I'm using Kubuntu 6.10 "Edgy" with Linux Kernel
2.6.17-11 Generic (standard 32-bit x86) on an Acer Aspire AS5002WLMi
laptop. The media player I'm using is a Sandisk Sansa e250 (I bought
this after borowing and testing several MP3 players from freinds). As
I'm using KDE ins
Same problem happening to me (Kubuntu Edgy) with every MP3 player I've
tried to date. Sorry, can't provide more details right now - I will be
back to provide the requested info when I get home from work.
