Forgive my poor explanation. As in when I *window-key* into the unity
panel where I can type the application I want to run ( a la gnome-do), I
should be able to type 'shutdown' to get the machine to... shutdown.

1. Super
2. shutdown [enter]
you should be able to do:
1. Alt-F2
2. shutdown [enter]
